The Wilkes University men's tennis team made quick work of Alvernia with a 9-0 victory as the Colonels improved to 7-0 overall and 3-0 in Freedom Conference play.
The Colonels did not lose more than three games in any singles or doubles match and won three singles matches without losing a game.
In doubles play, the tandem of
Chris Cozzillio (Harrisburg, Pa./Trinity) and
Kyle Ungvarsky (Horseheads, N.Y./Horseheads) gave the Colonels a 1-0 lead, which they would not relinquish, with an 8-2 win over Dave Schaeffer and Adam Lush.
Jeremy Nolt (Bloomsburg, Pa./Central Columbia) and
Evan Katz (Ellicott City, Md./Centennial) quickly made it 2-0 with an 8-2 victory over Morgan Davidheiser and Aaron Dearstyne. At the No. 3 spot,
Wes McCollum (Harrisburg, Pa./Central Dauphin) and
Jon Rohrbach (Muncy, Pa./Muncy) completed the sweep with an 8-1 win over Zach Marsar and Kevin Brandt.
In singles, Cozzillio took down Dearstyne 6-1, 6-0 at the No. 4 position before McCollum won his match over Marsar 6-0, 6-0 at the No. 3 spot. Rohrbach made it 6-0 in favor of Wilkes after his 6-0, 6-0 win over Andy Long at the No. 6 position.
Ungvarsky would continue the winning ways with a 6-0, 6-0 defeat of Brandt at the No. 5 spot while Katz took a 6-0, 6-2 victory over Lush. Nolt won the final singles match of the day, a 6-1, 6-3 decision over Schaeffer at the No. 1 spot to complete the sweep.
The Colonels will return to action Saturday when they head to DeSales for a 1 p.m. match.
