game one    game two

ANNVILLE – Gina Stefanelli (Wilkes-Barre, Pa./Meyers) hit a grand slam in the third inning to lead Wilkes University to a 5-2 win over Lebanon Valley in the first game, while the Dutchmen pulled out a 6-2 victory in the nightcap.

After falling behind 2-0 in the first inning, the Lady Colonels busted out for five runs in the third that proved to be more than enough for starter Lindsay Behrenshausen (Mt. Holly Springs/Boiling Springs), who picked up her twelfth win of the season, gave up just two runs off four hits.

The Dutchmen picked up two of their four hits in the first including a one-out two-run triple.

Stefanelli and Amanda Holston (Georgetown, Del./Sussex Central) both picked up two hits while Alyssa Ciesla (Branchville, N.J./High Point) picked up the fifth for the Lady Colonels. Wilkes took advantage of three Lebanon Valley errors which led to four unearned runs.

The second game saw Lebanon Valley jump out to a 4-0 lead before Wilkes was able to put two runs on the board in the fifth inning. Despite out-hitting the Dutchmen 7-5, the Lady Colonels committed two errors that would eventually lead to three unearned runs for pitcher Maureen Pelot (Kirkville, N.Y./Chittenango) who struck out eight in the loss.

Lebanon Valley took a 1-0 lead in the first inning before putting up two more runs in the second thanks to a two-run double. A single run in the third gave it a 4-0 lead before Kathy Dalton (Neptune, N.J./St. Rose) doubled down the left field line in the fifth inning, scoring Kaitlyn Kormanik (Johnstown, Pa./Richland), who led off the inning with a walk. Stefanelli picked up her fifth RBI of the day in the same inning when she grounded out to second base plating MeLisa Bracone (Farmingville, N.Y./Sachem East), who singled to center.

It would be the only runs Laura Snyder would give up as she improved to 8-4 on the year as she struck out nine Wilkes batters.

The Lady Colonels moved to 16-18 on the year and will head to Alvernia on Saturday for their final two conference games of the season.
