game one game two
ST. DAVIDS – Make it four-straight for the Lady Colonel softball team after their two-game sweep over Eastern as they took the first game 10-2 before closing out the second 3-1.
Second baseman
Kathy Dalton (Neptune, N.J./St. Rose) had a career day in the first game with two three-run home runs, picking up six runs batted in on a 2-for-4 performance with two runs scored. She has now a round-tripper in two-straight games and has three on the season.
Wilkes tallied 12 hits in the first game, five of which were for extra bases and busted out for seven runs in the third and fourth innings which proved to be the difference. The Lady Colonels got out of the gate quick with a run in the top of the first inning on a solo shot by
Gina Stefanelli (Wilkes-Barre, Pa./Meyers). She would later come around to score in the top of the third to make it 2-0 in favor of Wilkes on a
Cori Saltzer (Harrisburg/Central Dauphin East) RBI single down the left field line. Stefanelli now has a team-high five home runs and 20 runs batted in.
The fourth inning saw
Sarah Miller (Wyoming, Pa./Bishop Hoban) and
Amanda Holston (Georgetown, Del./Sussex Central) reach on back-to-back two-out walks before Dalton hit her first bomb of the day giving Wilkes a commanding 5-0 lead.
Colleen Labor (Aston, Pa./Sun Valley) would make it 6-0 on an RBI single down the left field line plating
Erin Plank (Harrisburg, Pa./Central Dauphin East), who led off the inning with a single.
Kerry Finnerty (Old Forge, Pa./Old Forge) would later reach on a fielder's choice setting the table for Dalton, who smashed her third homer of the season to make it 9-0.
Eastern would keep the game alive with two runs in the bottom of the fifth inning thanks to a two-run homer by Maggie McGowan. Wilkes would put the finishing touches on the game when
Alyssa Ciesla (Branchville, N.J./High Point) scored on a double play in the seventh.
Lindsay Behrenshausen (Mt. Holly Springs/Boiling Springs), who has been the workhorse as of late in the circle for the Lady Colonels, picked up both wins, striking out five in the first and tied a season high with nine in the second. She is now 8-3 on the year with nine complete games.
In the second game, Behrenshausen held the Eagles to just four hits and gave up a lone run in the bottom of the first, but the Colonels were able to counter with two runs in the second and a final run in the seventh.
Plank picked up her third home run of the year in the second inning and drove in Saltzer in the process to give Wilkes the lead for good. In the seventh, Ciesla singled to lead off the inning and would later score on a passed ball.
The Lady Colonels are now 12-12 overall and 6-4 in Freedom Conference play. They will be back in action next Tuesday when they face King's on its campus at 3 p.m.
