The Wilkes University women's soccer team challenged Centenary College Saturday, ultimately falling to the Cyclones by a score of 2-1. Wilkes would allow two late goals and never recover, falling to 3-4 on the season.
The first half saw only six shots, none of which were on goal. With great defensive efforts given by both teams, the score was tied at the break.
In the second half the Cyclones broke the tie when Brittany Overland found Sam Vanni streaking towards the goal where she scored the first goal of the game. Later, the same duo hooked up for the same result, putting Centenary up 2-0 with ten minutes left.
With only four minutes left in the contest, Wilkes crossed a pass in front of the Cyclone goal where a Centenary defender inadvertently knocked it into the net, making the score 2-1. Wilkes would create another opportunity to score late, but a shot by
Brooke Edwards (Levittown, PA/Harry S. Truman) was blocked on its way into the net.
Wilkes out-shot Centenary on the day, 15-8, and recorded twice as many shots on goal, but the Cyclones were able to take advantage of their opportunities around the goal, winning by a score of 2-1.
With the loss the Lady Colonels fall to 3-4 on the year, and will look to bounce back against NYU next Friday, Sept. 25. That match will begin at 3:00 pm.
