The Wilkes University women's soccer team hosted a 6-1 NYU team Friday, ultimately defeating the Violets by a score of 1-0. The Lady Colonels captured the lead early in the contest and never relinquished their one goal advantage.

Wilkes scored the only goal of the game in the 15th minute when Lyndsay Ellis (Shavertown/Dallas) served a corner kick to the front of the Violet goal where sophomore defender Megan Clementson (Frederick, MD/Tuscarora) volleyed it in the back of the net.

In the second period NYU would place pressure on the Wilkes defense, firing three shots on goal, all of which were saved by goalie Brooke Keister (Penns Creek, Pa./Midd-West), who combined with Sarah Shetler (Pequea, Pa./Penn Manor) for the shut-out. Wilkes only had one shot on goal in the contest, scoring on the only opportunity opened to them.

With the victory Wilkes improves to 4-4 on the season, with their next match-up coming against Susquehanna on Wednesday, Sept. 30. That game will begin at 7:00 p.m.
