LADY COLONELS FALL TO FREEDOM CONFERENCE RIVAL DELAWARE VALLEY

WILKES-BARRE – Wilkes University fell to Delaware Valley College 3-0 (25-11, 25-18 and 25-23) in Freedom Conference volleyball action on Wednesday night at the Marts Center.

The opening game went back and forth until Delaware Valley took a 6-3 lead and broke off five straight points to take an 11-3 advantage. The Lady Colonels were able to keep their deficit at eight, as the teams battled to a 17-9 Aggies lead. Delaware Valley then went on a 4-0 run, followed two rotations later by three straight points to take the opening 14-point game one win.

Game two was much of the same, as the Aggies took a 10-8 lead before going on a 5-1 run to go up by six. Wilkes then cut the deficit to three, but Delaware Valley was able to put together two more runs to take game two.

The third game included even more rallies, as both teams literally traded point-for-point for much of the set. Delaware Valley was finally able to get off three straight points, but the Lady Colonels responded with four straight, taking a 14-13 lead. The Aggies managed to take a 20-17 advantage before the Lady Colonels again rebounded to tie the score at 21-apiece. Delaware Valley almost closed it out with three straight points, but Wilkes stopped it to bring the score to 24-23 after an extended volley. The Aggies then closed it out, taking the three-set victory.

Amy Scordato distributed well for the Aggies, totaling 31 assists while Alyssa Riggins had 17 digs and Destinee Horning added 16.

Allie Kelleher (Sayre, Athens Area) led the defensive effort for Wilkes with 23 digs. Kate McGurk (Swarthmore, Ridley) put together a double-double with 15 assists and 11 digs.

The Lady Colonels (8-15, 3-2) will look to rebound as they travel to St. David's looking to knock off No. 6 Eastern next Tuesday at 7:00 p.m.
