WILKES-BARRE – Clarke Freeman (York, Central York) added another Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) men's tennis singles championship while three other Colonels won titles and one doubles pair took home a MAC crown as Wilkes University finished up at the conference championships this afternoon.

Freeman, who won at no. 6 singles a year ago, took home the no. 5 singles title on Sunday after defeating Phil Shannon of Lycoming 6-4, 6-2 in the finals. He advanced to the final round by beating Elizabethtown's Dylan Haefner 6-1, 6-1.

Later, Freeman paired with Wes McCollum (Harrisburg, Central Dauphin) to win the no. 2 doubles championship, defeating a team from Manhattanville 8-1 before beating Lycoming 8-6 in the finals.

A pair of freshmen also took home titles in their first MAC tournament. Dakkota Deem (Montgomery , Montgomery) took home the no. 4 singles title while Alex Makos (Mansfield , Mansfield) won at no. 6 singles. Deem defeated Manhattanville's Jose Pinto Gabriel 4-6, 7-6 (11), 10-8 in the final round while Makos beat Paul Whitman from Elizabethtown 6-2, 6-4 in the finals.

Bao Nguyen (Scranton , Scranton), going for the Colonels in the seventh bracket, defeated Elizabethtown's Cole Turula 7-5, 6-2 in the finals to win his first career singles title, giving the Colonels five total.

Jeremy Nolt (Bloomsburg, Central Columbia), competing at no. 1 singles, fell 3-6, 6-4, 10-7 in the semifinals to Julian Oribe from Manhattanville while Evan Katz (Ellicott City, MD, Centennial) lost to Lycoming's Alex Beattie 6-2, 6-3 in the no. 2 singles semifinal round. McCollum, who at no. 3 singles also advanced to the semifinals on Saturday, lost to Jordan Gates from Eastern 6-4, 6-3 on Sunday.

In doubles action, Nolt and Katz at no. 1 lost to a team from Elizabethtown 8-3 today after advancing to the semifinals yesterday. Deem and Makos, also advancing to the semifinals in the third doubles bracket, lost to a pairing from Elizabethtown 8-6.

This concludes the fall portion of the Colonels 2010-11 schedule. They begin their spring by competing in the Drew Invitational in Madison, New Jersey on February 19-20. Wilkes will then head down to South Carolina for its spring break training trip.
