WILKES-BARRE – Wilkes University lost to Baptist Bible College in four sets in a non-conference volleyball matchup on Thursday night at the Marts Center.

After starting off with losses in the first two games, the Lady Colonels came roaring back in the third, gaining a 25-12 win. Wilkes opened the game with four straight points to take the early lead. Baptist Bible rebounded briefly before the Lady Colonels extended their lead to 8-3. After exchanging points, the Lady Colonels went on a huge 9-0, opening up their advantage to 18-4. Wilkes then took a 21-6 lead before eventually gaining the 13-point win.

Game four saw both teams traded points in the early going, as Wilkes held a 7-6 lead and looked for the comeback. Baptist Bible then had a huge run of its own, ripping off 10 straight points to take control of the game, 16-7. The teams then again traded side outs until Baptist Bible came away with a 25-17 game four win and the match victory.

The first two games featured much of the same style of play, as the Lady Colonels and Baptist Bible exchanged points back-and-forth throughout most of the action. Wilkes fell in game one 25-20 and in game two 25-18.

Marissa Harrison (Shavertown, Lake-Lehman) led the Wilkes offense with 12 kills on 45 total attacks and Kate McGurk (Swarthmore, Ridley) collected 18 assists. McGurk also led the Lady Colonels with 24 digs, collecting the double-double, while Erin Nothstein (Mertztown, Brandywine Heights) added 23 digs, and Allie Kelleher (Sayre, Athens Area) and Harrison each had 18. Meaghan Williams (Hamlin, Western Wayne) finished with six total blocks.

Prior to tonight's match, the Lady Colonels honored their three seniors, Kelleher, Harrison and Williams. Kelleher and Harrison will graduate as the school's all-time leaders in digs and kills, respectively, while Williams is quietly putting up the best season of her four-year career.

The Lady Colonels will play host to a tri-match this Saturday between rival King's College and Penn State Berks.
