WILKES-BARRE –
Taryn Hallowell (Belvidere, NJ, Belvidere) had the lone score for Wilkes on a dreary Tuesday night, as the Lady Colonels were handed their first defeat at home this season by Elizabethtown, 4-1.
In the first 20 minutes of the contest it was all Elizabethtown, as the Blue Jays scored two goals to gain a comfortable lead. In the 32nd minute Wilkes answered in the form of a Hallowell goal, as the senior collected a steal in the middle of the field and fired a shot from about 20 yards out to make the score 2-1 at the break.
In the second half the Lady Colonels couldn't position themselves to tie up the contest, and six minutes into the period Elizabethtown added another score. The Blue Jays kept Wilkes at bay the rest of the game, scoring one more goal with seven minutes left to make the final score 4-1.
Hallowell made it eight scores on the season with her goal in the first period. The Blue Jays made it count when they needed to, only shooting 10 shots but scoring four goals.
Wilkes will have a chance to get back on track when it heads to St. Davids, Pa. to take on Eastern University on Saturday, Oct. 9. That game will begin at 1:00 p.m.
