Gina Stefanelli (Wilkes-Barre, Pa./Meyers) hit a solo homer and an RBI double in the first game, leading the Lady Colonels to a 2-0 victory over Scranton in the first game, but the Royals pushed Wilkes to extra innings in the second before winning 5-3 in the nightcap.

Stefanelli picked up two of the team's five hits in the first game, while Kristy Ordile (Bellmawr, N.J./Triton Regional) and Cori Saltzer (Harrisburg/Central Dauphin East) each hit doubles to lead the way for the Lady Colonels. Stefanelli would put Wilkes on the board with a solo shot in the bottom of the fourth inning for the team's second hit of the day. The Lady Colonels would strike again in the bottom of the sixth when Ordile and Stefanelli hit back-to-back one-out doubles.

Wilkes starter Lindsay Behrenshausen (Mt. Holly Springs/Boiling Springs) did her part in the circle as she struck out six while walking just one and scattered five hits. She improved to 3-3 on the year and tossed her first shutout of the season.

In the second game, Stefanelli had two more hits and drove in another run, but it wasn't enough as the Royals were able to plate two runs in the top of the ninth inning for their fifth win of the season.

Scranton put up two runs in the top of the third after the first two batters walked then advanced to second and third after a wild pitch. Annie Zeleniak singled to left field to plate Kaitlyn Frazza, who led off the inning with a walk before Kristen Williams hit a sacrifice line drive to center that would score Ashley Regan.

The Lady Colonels would answer in the bottom of the fifth when Laura Gonzalez reached on a one-out walk before Megan Mowery (Berwick/Berwick) tripled to center, allowing Gonzalez to score. Abbey Agresti (Harrisburg/Central Dauphin East) would hit a grounder to shortstop, where Kelly Zaccheo opted to try to throw out Mowery at home, but she was able to slide under the tag to tie the game at two.

The score would remain tied through regulation before Scranton would take the lead once again in the eighth when Zeleniak doubled to right center to score Zaccheo, who was placed on second because of the international tie-break rule. The lead would not last long as Wilkes would answer in the bottom of the frame. Mowery was placed on second to start the inning and would quickly steal third before Stefanelli hit a bloop-single to center, driving in Mowery to tie the game at three.

The top of the ninth was much like the eighth as the Royals bunted over the runner on second before Tia Dimou doubled to right center to score Jacqueline Eadie from second. Frazza would later bunt over Dimou for the second out of the inning, but a Colonel error, which would have ended the inning allowed Dimou to score, giving Scranton a 5-3 lead.

Wilkes would go three up and three down in the bottom of the ninth as Scranton improved to 5-7 on the year.

The Lady Colonels will be back in action Saturday when they host FDU-Florham in Freedom Conference action starting at 1 p.m.
