Game One
Game Two
The Wilkes University softball team took on Manhattanville in a double-header on Saturday, falling in both games by scores of 3-2 and 4-3.
In the first game the Lady Colonels collected just four hits, and
Cori Saltzer (Harrisburg/Central Dauphin East) had a lone RBI, as limited base runners made it difficult for Wilkes to score. Manhattanville scored two runs in the second inning on a home run, and one run in the fifth on a passed ball, which proved to be enough for the win.
Lindsey Behrenshausen picked up the loss despite striking out seven batters and giving up just five hits.
Game two saw big inning by both teams, as Manhattanville scored first in the fifth inning, platting four runners on three hits. Wilkes had a final chance in the seventh, as Saltzer doubled to left field, scoring
Gina Stefanelli (Wilkes-Barre, Pa./Meyers). After an
Alyssa Ciesla (Branchville, N.J./High Point) sacrifice fly,
Megan Gershey (Lake Ariel, Pa./Western Wayne) doubled to score
Laura Gonzales (Mount Bethel, Pa./Bangor Area) and bring Wilkes to within one. Unfortunately, the Lady Colonels couldn't score another runner, falling 4-3.
Maureen Pelot (Kirkville, N.Y./Chittenango) picked up the loss, giving up just four hits and striking out eight batters in six innings pitched.
The Lady Colonels will look to turn things around when they challenge Susquehanna on Thursday, April 15. That game will start away from home at 3:00 p.m.
