Game One
Game Two
The Wilkes University softball team traveled to Selinsgrove, Pa. to take on Susquehanna on Thursday, and after a double-header had two more losses by scores of 7-5 and 11-3.
Megan Gershey (Lake Ariel, Pa./Western Wayne) was pitching for the Lady Colonels in game one, who were the first to strike in the game. In the third inning Wilkes had the bases loaded, and after a single by
Cori Saltzer (Harrisburg/Central Dauphin East), took a 1-0 lead. The Lady Colonels then scored two more runs on a passed ball and wild pitch before
Alyssa Ciesla (Branchville, N.J./High Point) singled to score one more, giving Wilkes and early 4-0 lead.
Over the next three innings Susquehanna rallied, scoring one run in the fourth and three in the fifth with the help of a two-run home run. In the sixth, two triples and a double by the home team allowed it to score three more runs, extending its lead to two after Wilkes had scored in the top of the inning on an
Amanda Holston (Frankford, DE/Sussex Central) single.
The Lady Colonels were unable to score in the top of the seventh, ending the game at 7-5 in favor of Susquehanna. Saltzer and Ciesla each had two hits and an RBI in the contest, while Gershey struck out seven batters and gave up four earned runs.
In game two Susquehanna jumped all over the Lady Colonels early, collecting six runs on six hits in the bottom of the first inning alone, most of which came on a triple to right field. Wilkes scored three runs of its own in the top of the second inning, as a single by
Megan Mowery (Berwick/Berwick) scored two runners.
In the bottom of the frame Susquehanna got those runs back, and two more in the next inning, pushing its lead to eight and forcing Wilkes to score runs to prolong the game. Unfortunately, the Lady Colonels couldn't get another run across the plate, falling 11-3 in five innings.
Mowery had the only two RBI's in the contest for Wilkes, as the Lady Colonels only collected four hits in 20 at-bats in game two. Susquehanna pounded out 10 hits in the contest, plating 11 runners.
The Lady Colonels' next contest will be a double-header against King's College on Saturday, April 17 at Ralston Field. The first game will begin at 1:00 p.m.
