The Wilkes University softball team hosted Lebanon Valley in a double-header on Thursday, coming off two victories over King's College last Saturday. Wilkes was unable to get into things offensively, as Lebanon Valley cruised to two victories, 7-0 and 4-0.
In the circle for Wilkes in game one was
Megan Gershey (Lake Ariel, Pa./Western Wayne), and in the top of the first the Dutchmen struck quickly, hitting a three-run home run before the Lady Colonels recorded an out, taking an early lead.
In the top of the fourth the Dutchmen added three more runs, all of which were unearned due to two Wilkes errors in the frame. Another solo home run added one more for Lebanon Valley in the fifth, pushing its lead to seven. In the fifth and sixth inning Wilkes had runners on, but was unable to drive anyone home, ultimately falling by a score of 7-0.
Wilkes collected only four hits in the game, while also committing four errors in the field.
In game two Lindsey Behrenshausen got the start for Wilkes, have no trouble through the first two innings. In the third the Dutchmen had the bases loaded with one out, eventually scoring four runs in the inning before Wilkes ended the frame.
In the bottom of the third Wilkes had a runner on third with one out, but couldn't drive her home to put a run on the board. Over the next few innings Wilkes was unable to together enough hits to climb back into the game, falling in the second contest 4-0.
The Lady Colonels collected just two hits in the game, while committing four errors in the contest.
The Lady Colonels will be back in action on Saturday, April 24 when they host Eastern at Ralston Field. The first game will begin at approximately 1:00 p.m.
