POMONA, NJ – The Wilkes University women's soccer team headed to Pomona, N.J. on Saturday to participate in a tournament at Stockton College. In their first match of the weekend, Wilkes allowed two early second half goals to ultimately fall to the Ospreys, 2-1.
The story of the game was the aggressive play by Stockton, who in the first half alone fired seven shots. Two of those shots were on goal, but saved by Wilkes goalie
Samantha Rohn (Levittown, Neshaminy). On the other side of the field, the Lady Colonels were unable to record a single shot in the half.
In the second half, the Ospreys score two goals in the first four minutes to quickly pull ahead of Wilkes. On minute 57
Christina Stepansky (Harrisburg, Central Dauphin) was able to respond with a goal of her own, unassisted. Unfortunately, the Lady Colonels were unable to record another score, falling 2-1 in their second contest of the season.
Wilkes was outshot in the game, 17-3, with those three shots coming from Stepansky and two by
Maura Kelly (Hummelstown, Lower Dauphin). Rohn recorded seven saves in the contest, but didn't receive the win in the end.
Wilkes will now challenge Rowan on Sunday, Sept. 5. That game will be played at Stockton College.
