WILKES MEN'S TENNIS DEFEATS LYCOMING, 8-1
 
EDWARDSVILLE -- The Wilkes men's tennis team opened the 2011 fall season with an 8-1 win over Lycoming College Saturday afternoon at the Ralston Athletic Complex.
 
The Colonels move to 1-0 on the fall season, while the Warriors fall to 1-1.
 
In #1 doubles, Alex Makos (Mansfield, PA/Mansfield) and Clarke Freeman (York, PA/Central York) posted an 8-5 win over Lycoming's Jason Mifsud and David Brown.  In #2 doubles, Steve Wilson and partner Zack Telljohann (Atlanta, GA/Westminster) defeated Cody Heffner and Nam Nguyen, 8-1. Wilkes squad of Brendon Blachowski (Newtown, PA /Council Rock North) and Trey Fidler (Myerstown, PA/ELCO) won in default.
 
In singles play, Wilson lost a tough match to Mifsud 1-6, 6-2, 10-2 in the #1 spot. In #2 singles, Makos defeated Brown 6-1, 6-3.  Telljohann posted a straight set win over Heffner 6-0, 6-1 in the #3 slot.  In #4 singles, Freeman cruised past Jordan Dubinsky 6-0, 6-0.  Fidler finished off the singles for Wilkes with a 6-0, 6-0 victory over Nguyen.  Brandon Helfrich (Bloomsburg, PA/Central Columbia) earned a win in default at #6 singles.
 
Wilkes returns to action next weekend in the MAC Individual Tournament on October 8-9 from the Ralston Athletic Complex and Kirby Park.
