ROBERTS, MARTIN TWO GOALS EACH LEAD WILKES WOMEN'S SOCCER PAST DESALES, 4-1

CENTER VALLEY, PA – Alicia Roberts (Hatboro, PA/Upper Moreland) and Jana Martin (Lititz, PA/Manheim Central) scored two goals each to lead visiting Wilkes University to a 4-1 Freedom Conference victory over DeSales University Wednesday afternoon.

With the win Wilkes moves to 5-3-3 overall and 1-0-2 in Freedom play. DeSales drops to 2-10-1 overall and 0-3 in league matches.

After an early DeSales goal made it 1-0 in favor of the hosts, Roberts notched her first goal of the half off an assist from Martin as she put it home high past the keepers outstretched hands into the back of the net to tie the game at 1-1 with 21:37 on the clock. Martin then gave Wilkes a 2-1 lead at the 26:44 mark when she took a cross from Katy Fissel (Madison, NJ/Madison) and beat the goalie to the left corner of the goal.

Roberts then added her second tally of the half, this time off a corner kick from Ashley Graham (New Hampton, NY/Minisink Valley) as the ball went off Roberts into the goal to make it 3-1 just before the break.

Martin added an insurance strike late in the second half (89:59) thanks to an assist from Haley Adam (Brookeville, MD/Sherwood) to seal the league win for the Lady Colonels, 4-1.

Wilkes goalie Sam Lindo (Hazlet, NJ/Raritan) made four saves to record the win in net. Alex Bastinelli and Michelle Churchman split time in goal for DeSales finishing with three saves and two saves respectively.

Wilkes held a 14-6 shot advantage, while garnering 12 corner kicks. DeSales went the full contest without a corner attempt.

The Lady Colonels will return to the field Saturday when they make the trip to Purchase, N.Y. for a Freedom matchup with Manhattanville College at 3:30 p.m.
