BLOOMSBURG – The Colonels picked up a win each in singles and doubles action and played Bloomsburg University tough throughout, but Wilkes University ultimately fell to the Division II Huskies 7-2 in non-conference men's tennis action on Tuesday afternoon in Bloomsburg.
Wes McCollum (Harrisburg/Central Dauphin) got the Colonels win in singles action, defeating Lee Wexler 6-3, 6-0 at No. 3.
Alex Makos (Mansfield, PA/Mansfield) nearly rallied for win at No. 6, falling down 6-2 before coming back to win 6-3 in the second set, ultimately losing 10-8 in the final to Tyler Pultro.
In doubles action,
Jeremy Nolt (Bloomsburg/Central Columbia) and
Dakkota Deem (Montgomery, PA/Montgomery) picked up a victory at No. 2, defeating Jack McClurkin and Jeff Nuhfer 9-7.
The Colonels (4-2) open up their Freedom Conference schedule on Saturday as they host Manhattanville College at the Ralston Athletic Complex. Their 2011 home opener is set to start at 1:00 p.m.
