VIRGINIA BEACH, VA – The Wilkes University softball team fell in both of its games on Saturday, losing to Hood College 6-5 in the morning before dropping its game against North Carolina Wesleyan 11-6 later in the day.
In game one, Lindsay Behrenshausen (Mt. Holly Springs/Boiling Springs) picked up the loss in the start, going six innings and giving up six runs but just three earned on 11 hits, striking out two and walking one.
Offensively, Kait Brown (Utica, NY/Thomas R. Proctor) went 2-for-4 with two runs scored while Jackie Follweiler (Slatington/Northern Lehigh) also finished 2-for-4, getting a double and scoring a run. Jordan Borger (Kunkletown, PA/Pleasant Valley) added two RBI for the Lady Colonels.
In the afternoon game, the Lady Colonels found themselves down 6-0 in the fourth inning, before Borger hit a two-run double, cutting Wesleyan's lead to four. Wilkes then got another runner on base for Follweiler, who cranked a three-run homer as Wilkes cut its deficit to one. Wesleyan then went on to score five of the final six runs to get the win.
Borger finished 3-for-4 with the double, two RBI and a run scored while Amanda Holston (Frankford, DE/Sussex Central) went 3-for-3 with a run and another knocked in.
Brown again went 2-for-4 with a run scored while Cindy Deimer picked up two hits and Follweiler went 1-for-4 with the homerun and three RBI.
Heather Compton (Easton, PA/Easton) picked up the loss in the circle, starting and going 2.2 innings, striking out two and giving up six runs on seven hits.
The Lady Colonels wrap up their trip to Virginia Beach with a double-header against Maine Farmington tomorrow morning.
