HILTON HEAD ISLAND, SC – The Colonels picked up wins at two of three doubles spots but just one the rest of the way as Wilkes University fell to Bridgewater State 6-3 on Monday in its first action of its spring break trip to South Carolina.

Wes McCollum (Harrisburg/Central Dauphin) and Clarke Freeman (York, PA/Central York) teamed for an 8-6 win at No. 1 doubles to get the Colonels second win of the day. They picked up their second doubles victory with an 8-3 win by Brandon Helfrich (Bloomsburg, PA/Central Columbia) and Bao Nguyen (Scranton, PA/Scranton).

In singles action, Helfrich picked up a 6-0, 6-2 victory at No. 6 over Matt Chalklin.

The Colonels return to the courts on Wednesday afternoon when they face Trine.
