WILKES-BARRE – Wes McCollum (Harrisburg/Central Dauphin) captured two victories, including one at the second singles spot, to help Wilkes University to an easy 8-1 win over visiting Eastern University in Freedom Conference men's tennis action on Friday afternoon at the Ralston Athletic Complex.

McCollum's 6-0, 6-1 win came over Bryann Arnett, who had been undefeated at 6-0 at No. 2 singles on the year.

Wilkes had a fairly easy time with the Eagles in the rest of singles play, with Clarke Freeman (York, PA/Central York) getting a 6-1, 6-1 win over Dan Wilson at No. 3; Dakkota Deem (Montgomery, PA/Montgomery) beating Tyler Hoagland 6-2, 7-6 at the fourth spot; Alex Makos (Mansfield, PA/Mansfield) winning 6-3, 6-0 at five over Jonny Shenk and Brandon Helfrich (Bloomsburg, PA/Central Columbia) rounding it out with a 6-0, 6-1 win over Ryan Dykstra at No. 6.

The Colonels swept the doubles side, including an 8-6 win at No. 1 as McCollum paired with Evan Katz (Ellicott City, MD/Centennial) to defeat Arnett and Michael Roth.

Jeremy Nolt (Bloomsburg/Central Columbia) and Deem beat Wilson and Hoagland 8-6 at two while Freeman and Makos cruised past Shenk and Dykstra 8-2 at three.

The win was the Colonels third straight, as they sit alone on top of the conference standings with a 4-0 record, 8-3 overall. They'll take to the court again on Sunday as they travel to Scranton to take on the Royals in a big non-conference matchup. Match time is set for 1:00 p.m.
