DALLAS – Five Colonels picked up two wins and seven contributed as Wilkes University blanked Misericordia University 9-0 in the Freedom Conference men's tennis regular season finale in Dallas on Wednesday.
Wilkes easily disposed of the Cougars in doubles action, as
Evan Katz (Ellicott City, MD/Centennial) and
Wes McCollum (Harrisburg/Central Dauphin) at No. 1 and
Alex Makos (Mansfield, PA/Mansfield) and
Adam Coombs (Blue Bell/LaSalle) at No. 3 both won 8-0.
Jeremy Nolt (Bloomsburg/Central Columbia) and
Dakkota Deem (Montgomery, PA/Montgomery) picked up the Colonels third win, getting an 8-5 victory in the second spot.
It was also easy wins throughout the singles matches, as Nolt got a 6-2, 6-0 win at No. 1 and Katz won 6-2, 6-3 at No. 2
McCollum blanked his opponent 6-0, 6-0 in third singles, Deem won 6-5, 6-4 at No. 4,
Bao Nguyen (Scranton, PA/Scranton) won 6-0, 6-4 at No. 5 and Coombs picked up a 6-2, 6-2 win in the sixth spot.
The Colonels wrap up their regular season with a 9-3 record, going 5-0 in Freedom Conference to earn the No. 1 seed in the tournament. They'll play host to the loser of today's Eastern University-King's College match next Tuesday, April 26. The semifinal matchup will get underway at 3:30 p.m. from the courts at the Ralston Athletic Complex.
