Game One Box / Game Two Box

JESSUP –The Lady Colonels were edged out by the University of Scranton in the opener before giving up too many early runs in game two as Wilkes University got swept by the Royals 1-0 and 11-4 in a non-conference doubleheader played Wednesday night as the Jessup Sports Complex.

In the opener, Scranton got on the board in the bottom of the first when the leadoff batter reached second on an error. The Royals took advantage two batters later with an RBI single to left, which was enough to capture the win.

Starter Lindsay Behrenshausen (Mt. Holly Springs/Boiling Springs) was solid the rest of the game, scattering four hits over the final six innings of play, striking out two and walking only one.

The Lady Colonels offense couldn't get much going, managing just three hits.

In the game, the Lady Colonels struck first when Cori Saltzer (Harrisburg/Central Dauphin East)'s single to right brought Alysha Bixler (Williamstown, PA/Williams Valley) around from second.

Scranton came back in the bottom half, getting four runs on five hits, including a three-run double, to take a 4-1 lead.

Wilkes kept the scoring going in the second, with Abbey Agresti (Harrisburg/Central Dauphin East) and Amanda Holston (Frankford, DE/Sussex Central) leading off the inning with back-to-back singles. Katie Brown (Nanticoke, PA/Nanticoke) then reached on a fielder's choice, bringing home Agresti. Another fielder's choice put Megan Mowery (Berwick/Berwick) on first and brought Holston home as the Lady Colonels got it back to 4-3.

More runs came for the Royals their half, getting three more on three hits to take a 7-3 lead into the third.

The Lady Colonels final run came in the fourth, when a single by Brown brought Agresti - who had led off with a double – across the plate.

Agresti finished 2-for-3 with that double and two runs scored, while Brown also went 2-for-3, knocking in two runs.

The Lady Colonels wrap up their season this weekend when they host Manhattanville College on Saturday and Marywood University on Sunday. Both doubleheaders will start at 1:00 p.m. while Wilkes will celebrate senior day on Saturday.
