WILKES-BARRE – The Lady Colonels combined for eight hits in the two games as Wilkes University dropped both games of a doubleheader to King's College, losing 10-3 and 8-0 at the Betzler Complex on Sunday afternoon.

The Lady Colonels got on the scoreboard first, putting together a two-out rally in their half of the second inning of game one to take a 1-0 lead.

Cindy Diemer (Berwick/Berwick Area) got it going with a single, advancing to second on an error by the centerfielder. After another error moved Diemer to third, Sarah Fife (Old Forge/Old Forge)'s single to center brought her home for the first run of the game.

Wilkes struck again the following inning, as Jackie Follweiler (Slatington/Northern Lehigh) got her second homerun of the year to put the Lady Colonels up 2-0.

Amanda Holston (Frankford, DE/Sussex Central) followed Follweiler's blast up with a single up the middle, then moved up to second when Diemer got her second hit of the game. A third straight single, this one by Jessalyn Paveletz (Hanover Township, PA/Hanover Area), brought Holston around from second to give the Lady Colonels a 3-0 lead.

King's then put together a big rally, following up the Lady Colonels two-run inning with three in the bottom half to tie the game.

The Lady Monarchs took the lead the following inning, putting together three runs on five hits as King's went up 6-3. They'd tack on four more in sixth, holding the Lady Colonels to just one hit after the third inning to take the 10-3 game one win.

Diemer and Paveletz each went 2-for-3 on the day, while Lindsay Behrenshausen (Mt. Holly Springs/Boiling Springs) took the loss, striking out five and giving up eight earned in the complete game.

King's (7-5, 3-1) didn't wait to score in game two, putting up four runs in the first inning and another two the following stanza to take a 6-0 lead.

Meanwhile, the Lady Colonels couldn't find their offense and King's shut them down with just one hit as the Lady Monarchs were able to take the win in five innings.

Alysha Bixler (Williamstown, PA/Williams Valley) entered the circle in relief of Behrenshausen, throwing the final 2.2 innings, striking out a pair and giving up just one hit and two runs, both unearned.

The Lady Colonels (2-12, 2-4) have a busy week ahead, starting it off with a road trip to the University of Scranton on Tuesday for a 4:00 p.m. doubleheader.
