WILKES-BARRE – Lindsay Behrenshausen (Mt. Holly Springs/Boiling Springs) picked up two wins and Abbey Agresti (Harrisburg/Central Dauphin East) had the game-winning hit in game two as the Lady Colonels took two games from Manhattanville on Saturday, 3-1 and 5-4.

The day began with the recognition of Wilkes players Amanda Holston (Frankford, DE/Sussex Central), Cori Saltzer (Harrisburg/Central Dauphin East), and Behrenshausen, all of whom are playing in their final season at Wilkes.

In game one it was the seniors who took care of business, as Saltzer started things off with a two-run homerun in the first inning to give Wilkes a quick lead. Manhattanville finally got on the board in the fifth inning, but in the bottom of the frame Wilkes answered in the form of a Jordan Borger (Kunkletown, PA/Pleasant Valley) single, scoring Alysha Bixler (Williamstown, PA/Williams Valley) and pushing the lead back to two.

On the mound, Behrenshausen was superb, surrendering just five hits in seven innings pitched, as well as one run while striking out seven Valiants and walking one batter.

In game two Behrenshausen got the nod again, and the two teams exchanged runs in the first two innings. In the third Manhattanville tacked on another run, giving it its first lead of the day.

The fifth inning was packed with action, as the Valiants extended their lead in the top of the inning through two runs on five hits, while leaving the bases loaded. Wilkes didn't lie down in the bottom of the frame though, as a double by Bixler scored two runs, and a sacrifice fly by Borger scored Bixler, tying up the contest at four runs apiece.

Behrenshausen held the Valiants scoreless in the sixth, and on the bottom of the inning Jackie Follweiler (Slatington/Northern Lehigh) singled to start things off, eventually advancing to second on a passed ball. After being sacrificed over to third by Holston, Agresti singled up the middle, scoring Follweiler and giving Wilkes the lead.

In the top of the seventh Agresti added to her spectacular game by making a diving catch in left field, and Behrenshausen shut down the rest of the Valiant batters, sealing the 5-4 victory and the sweep.

Bixler finished with two RBI's in the game, while Agresti was the only Lady Colonel with multiple hits, as she also knocked in two runners including the game-winning hit. Behrenshausen gave up nine hits and four runs, but took care of business down the stretch when it mattered most.

The Lady Colonels will try to finish the season on a positive note when they host Marywood on Sunday, May 1. That doubleheader will begin at 1:00 p.m.
