MADISON, NJ – Six Colonels picked up two wins apiece as Wilkes University easily handled FDU-Florham 9-0 in Freedom Conference men's tennis action on Saturday afternoon in Madison, New Jersey.
Evan Katz (Ellicott City, MD/Centennial) earned a 6-3, 6-0 win over AJ Warden at No. 1 singles and paired with
Wes McCollum (Harrisburg/Central Dauphin) at the top doubles spot for an 8-0 victory.
McCollum defeated Ryan Kearns at No. 2, winning 6-1, 6-0, for his 11th singles victory of the year.
Also picked up wins on the singles side were
Clarke Freeman (York, PA/Central York),
Dakkota Deem (Montgomery, PA/Montgomery),
Alex Makos (Mansfield, PA/Mansfield) and
Brandon Helfrich (Bloomsburg, PA/Central Columbia). Freeman and Helfrich each lead the Colonels with 12 victories on the year.
In the rest of the doubles action, Freeman and Makos paired for an 8-3 win at No. 2 while Deem and Helfrich won 8-1 at the third spot.
The win moves the Colonels to 2-0 in the conference, 6-3 overall on the season.
They'll return to the court on Thursday when they host Manhattanville College in a makeup from the originally scheduled March 26 match. Action is set to get underway at 3:30 p.m. at the Ralston Athletic Complex courts and the courts at Kirby Park.
