WILKES WOMEN'S SOCCER CONTINUES HOT STREAK WITH 4-0 WIN OVER BAPTIST BIBLE
EDWARDSVILLE – Katie Cocchi (Morris Plains, NJ/Parsipany Hills) scored one goal and added two assists as Wilkes University cruised to a 4-0 shutout victory over Baptist Bible College Wednesday night at Schmidt Stadium.
Wilkes improves to 4-1 on the season capturing their third straight non-league victory. Baptist Bible drops to 4-2 following the loss.
Jana Martin (Lititz, PA/Manheim Central) put Wilkes on the board early off a cross from Katy Fissel (Madison, NJ/Madison) at the 16:37 mark. Fissel, the reigning Freedom Player of the Week, continued her fine play netting her third goal of the season off a Cocchi/Amy Davis double assist to give Wilkes a 2-0 lead at the 41:28 mark.
The second half was more of the same as Wilkes dominated possession in their offensive end. Ashley Thorpe (Cornwall, NY/Cornwall) scored at the 76:23 mark to up the lead to 3-0 as Cocchi picked up her second helper along with Alexandra Giammanco (Lyndhurst, NJ/Immaculate Heart Academy). Cocchi then cashed in on a goal late in the second half thanks to an assist from Martin.
Wilkes held a commanding 38-4 shot advantage, while garnering 10 corner kicks to Baptist Bible's one attempt. Sam Lindo (Hazlet, NJ/Raritan) and Hayley Kay (Danville, PA/Danville) split time in net for Wilkes to preserve the shutout, as Lindo finished with two saves.
Wilkes concludes its four-game home stand Saturday on Homecoming when they host Arcadia University at the Ralston Athletic Complex at 5:00 p.m.
