Steve Finkernagel The Wilkes University men's tennis team won four single titles and three doubles titles in the MAC Individual Tourney WILKES MEN’S TENNIS WITH STRONG SHOWING IN MAC INDIVIDUAL TOURNAMENT 10/14/2012 5:53:00 PM (Final Results) WILKES MEN'S TENNIS WITH STRONG SHOWING IN MAC INDIVIDUAL TOURNAMENT EDWARDSVILLE – The Wilkes University men's tennis team had a strong showing in the MAC Individual Tournament Saturday afternoon winning four singles titles and all four doubles titles at the Ralston Athletic Complex. Michael Kranz (Depew, NY/Lancaster Central) (2) won the No.3 singles title defeating Elizabethtown's Paul Whitman (1). In No. 4 singles play, Max Appello (Sparta, NJ/Sparta) (4) defeated teammate Brendan Blachowski (1) 3-6, 7-6, 10-5 to earn the victory. Clarke Freeman (York, PA/Central York) won the No.5 singles title defeating Elizabethtown's Mike Cannon 6-3, 6-3. The No. 6 singles title match saw two Wilkes teammates again battle for the championship. Brandon Helfrich (Bloomsburg, PA/Central Columbia) defeated Dan Hackford 6-2, 6-2 to win the match. Wilkes had a chance to win in the No. 1, No. 2, and No. 7 singles title matches, but fell short losing in the final round of each separate tournament. Alex Makos (Mansfield, PA/Mansfield) and Steven Wilson (Bronx, NY/JFK) took home the No. 1 doubles title match defeating Elizabethtown's Josh Riehl and Eric Fritzges 8-6. Connor Peckham (Warminster, PA/Central Bucks East) and Kranz took home the No. 2 doubles title by defeating Whitman and Billy Freitag of Elizabethtown 8-5. In the No. 3 doubles title championship, Blachowski and Freeman defeated teammates Appello and Trey Fidler (Myerstown, PA/ELCO) 8-1. Throy Autero and Colin Strunk captured the No. 4 doubles title with an 8-2 win over Simon Mohr and Darren Stochmal of Arcadia.
