The Lady Colonels posted an easy 27-0 win over York College (N.Y.) then followed with a 12-0 shutout over John Jay College in the nightcap. The Wilkes offense exploded for 15 first inning runs in the win over York. Freshman Emily McGrath (Upper Darby, PA/Drexel Hill) had a huge day at the plate in her first collegiate contest going 5-for-5 with five doubles and eight runs batted in. The five doubles breaks the school single game record of three previously held by Tami Thomas against Lebanon Valley in 1999, while the eight RBI ties the single game mark set by Suzanne Fisher against Delaware Valley in 1997. Alysha Bixler (Williamstown, PA/Williams Valley) went 4-for-4 with six RBI on a triple and two home runs. In the circle, Heather Compton (Easton, PA/Easton) recorded the win going three solid innings not allowing a hit while striking out five batters. McGrath entered in relief going two innings allowing just one hit striking out three. In the win over John Jay, the Lady Colonels continued to plate runs at a high rate. Jessalyn Paveletz (Hanover Township, PA/Hanover Area) topped the team going 3-for-4 with a homer and three RBI. Jordan Borger (Kunkletown, PA/Pleasant Valley) finished 2-for-4 with one double and two runs scored. Freshman Laykin Hughes (Minersville, PA/Pottsville) picked up the win in the circle going four innings not allowing a hit with eight strikeouts. Bixler entered in relief allowing just one hit over one inning of work. Wilkes will continue play tomorrow with matchups against Franklin and Marshall at 10:00 a.m. and North Carolina Wesleyan at 12:00 p.m. Print Friendly Version
