WILKES SOFTBALL FALLS TWICE AGAINST LEBANON VALLEY

EDWARDSVILLE – Visiting Lebanon Valley used timely hitting and solid pitching to post a doubleheader sweep of host Wilkes University Thursday afternoon at the Ralston Athletic Complex in non-conference action. The Dutchmen scored a 6-3 win in game one before posting an 11-1 win in five innings in the nightcap.

Wilkes slips to 4-8 overall on the season while Lebanon Valley improves its mark to 13-8 on the year.

Game one saw Lebanon Valley jump out to a 3-0 lead after one inning of play. A sacrifice fly and two-run homer from Allie Hartman provided the firepower for the visitors. The Dutchmen added two more runs in the third to take a 5-0 lead before Wilkes responded with one tally in the bottom half of the frame. Kait Brown (Utica, NY/Thomas R. Proctor) led off the inning with a single and later scored on an RBI double from Jordan Borger (Kunkletown, PA/Pleasant Valley).

With Lebanon Valley leading 6-1, the Lady Colonels attempt at a comeback was cut short after scoring two runs in the fifth thanks to an RBI single from Jessalyn Paveletz (Hanover Township, PA/Hanover Area). Wilkes went scoreless in its final two innings as Lebanon Valley held on for the 6-3 victory.

The Dutchmen continued to ride their hot bats in game two. Lebanon Valley scored four runs in the first and four more in the second to break open the contest leading 8-0 after three. Hartman highlighted the rally with her second home run of the game, a three-run shot to right field. Borger singled home Wilkes lone run in the first.

Wilkes returns to Freedom Conference play Saturday with a road doubleheader at Manhattanville College. First pitch is scheduled for 12:00 p.m. in Purchase, N.Y.
