WILKES MEN'S TENNIS OPENS SPRING BREAK TRIP WITH 6-3 WIN OVER JOHN CARROLL

HILTON HEAD, SC – The Wilkes University men's tennis team claimed two of three doubles matches and followed by taking four of six singles flights to post a 6-3 win over John Carroll University Monday afternoon on the opening day of its spring break trip in Hilton Head Island, South Carolina.

With the win Wilkes improves to 2-0 on the young season while John Carroll drops to 0-4 on the year.

In doubles play, Alex Makos (Mansfield, PA/Mansfield)/Clarke Freeman (York, PA/Central York) posted an 8-6 win over Ryan Mullaney/Sean Graham at No. 1. Brandon Helfrich (Bloomsburg, PA/Central Columbia)/Brendon Blachowski (Newtown, PA /Council Rock North) grabbed Wilkes' second doubles win at No.3 with an 8-2 victory over Eric Grimaldi/Cass Stadnik.

In singles competition, Makos, Zack Telljohann (Atlanta, GA/Westminster), Freeman, and Dakkota Deem (Montgomery, PA/Montgomery) all claimed two set wins. Freeman's 6-4, 6-3 decision over Michael Hulseman at No. 4 clinched the dual victory for the Colonels.

Wilkes returns to action Wednesday with matches against Bridgewater College (Va.) at 8:15 a.m. and Penn State Behrend at 3:15 p.m.
