WILKES MEN'S TENNIS SPLITS A PAIR OF MATCHES AGAINST BRIDGEWATER, PSU-BEHREND

HILTON HEAD, SC – The Wilkes University men's tennis team split a pair of matches Wednesday on the third day of its spring break trip in Hilton Head Island, South Carolina. The Colonels dropped an 8-1 decision against Bridgewater College (Va.) before posting an 8-1 win over Penn State Behrend in their second match of the day.

Wilkes moves to 3-1 on the year with one match remaining on its spring break tour.

The team of Alex Makos (Mansfield, PA/Mansfield)/Clarke Freeman (York, PA/Central York) scored the lone win for Wilkes at No. 1 doubles in the loss against Bridgewater. The Eagles swept all six singles flights in the victory.

Wilkes responded with a strong showing against PSU-Behrend taking all six singles flights and two of three in doubles play. Steven Wilson (Bronx, NY/JFK), Makos, Zack Telljohann (Atlanta, GA/Westminster), Freeman, Brandon Helfrich (Bloomsburg, PA/Central Columbia), and Trey Fidler (Myerstown, PA/ELCO) each scored straight-set singles wins for the Colonels. Wilkes then claimed wins at No. 1 and 2 doubles as the teams of Makos/Freeman and Wilson/Telljohann recorded wins 8-3 and 8-1 respectively.

Wilkes will wrap-up its spring break tour Friday with a match against Landmark Conference member Susquehanna University at 9:15 a.m.
