WILKES MEN'S TENNIS EDGES OUT SCRANTON, 5-4

SCRANTON, PA – Wilkes University's Brandon Helfrich (Bloomsburg, PA/Central Columbia) clinched the No. 5 singles to propel the Colonels to a 5-4 win at the University of Scranton Tuesday night in regional play.

With the win Wilkes improves to 8-2 overall while Scranton falls to 4-4 on the year.

With the match all squared at 4-4 with one singles match left to finish, Helfrich outdueled Scranton's Bennett Kelley 6-7 (3-7), 6-0, 6-3 to sealed the win for Wilkes. Clarke Freeman (York, PA/Central York) and Dakkota Deem (Montgomery, PA/Montgomery) were the other singles winners for Wilkes at No. 4 and No. 6 respectively.

In doubles play, Wilkes captured two of three bouts. Alex Makos (Mansfield, PA/Mansfield) and Zack Telljohann (Atlanta, GA/Westminster) took an 8-6 win at No. 2, while Brendon Blachowski (Newtown, PA /Council Rock North) and Helfrich captured an 8-3 victory at No. 3.

Wilkes will next host cross-town rival King's College Saturday at 1:00 p.m. at the Ralston Athletic Complex.
