WILKES MEN'S TENNIS POSTS 7-2 WIN OVER KING'S

EDWARDSVILLE – The Wilkes University men's tennis team captured two of three doubles matches before posting wins in five of six singles flights on way to a 7-2 Freedom victory over cross-town rival King's College Saturday afternoon at the Ralston Athletic Complex.

With the win Wilkes moves to 9-2 overall and 3-0 in Freedom matches. King's slips to 7-9 following the defeat.

Wilkes jumped out to a 2-1 lead after doubles play as the duos of Alex Makos (Mansfield, PA/Mansfield)/Zack Telljohann (Atlanta, GA/Westminster) and Brandon Helfrich (Bloomsburg, PA/Central Columbia)/Evan Katz (Ellicott City, MD/Centennial) picked up wins at No. 2 and 3 doubles respectively.

The Colonels then posted wins in singles No. 2 through 6 to complete the 7-2 Freedom victory. Steven Wilson (Bronx, NY/JFK) posted a 6-3, 6-2 win over Tim Carroll at No. 2. Telljohann recorded a 6-2, 6-4 win over Tony Bevevino at No. 3, while Clarke Freeman (York, PA/Central York), Dakkota Deem (Montgomery, PA/Montgomery), and Helfrich each added straight set victories at No. 4 through six respectively.

Wilkes will have a quick turnaround as the Colonels travel to NYU tomorrow for a regional matchup scheduled for 1:00 p.m. at the Stadium Tennis Center at Mill Pond.
