WILKES MEN'S TENNIS SCORES 7-2 WIN AGAINST MORAVIAN

EDWARDSVILLE – The Wilkes University men's tennis team posted a 7-2 win over visiting Moravian College Thursday afternoon in regional play at the Ralston Athletic Complex.

With the win Wilkes improves to 10-3 overall, while Moravian drops to 7-4 on the year.

Wilkes opened a 2-1 lead after doubles play grabbing wins at No. 2 and 3 pairs. The duos of Alex Makos (Mansfield, PA/Mansfield)/Zach Telljohann and Brandon Helfrich (Bloomsburg, PA/Central Columbia)/Evan Katz (Ellicott City, MD/Centennial) recorded 8-2 and 8-0 wins respectively in doubles competition.

In singles play, the Colonels secured wins in five of six matches including a three-set victory from No. 2 Steven Wilson (Bronx, NY/JFK) (2-6, 6-4, 10-5). Telljohann, Clarke Freeman (York, PA/Central York), Dakkota Deem (Montgomery, PA/Montgomery), and Helfrich all secured singles wins in straight sets.

Wilkes returns to Freedom play Saturday with an important match at Manhattanville College at 1:00 p.m.
