WILKES MEN'S TENNIS CLINCHES TOP SEED IN FREEDOM TOURNAMENT WITH 8-1 WIN AT MANHATTANVILLE

PURCHASE, N.Y. – The Wilkes University men's tennis team cruised to an 8-1 win over host Manhattanville College Saturday afternoon clinching the top seed in the upcoming Freedom Conference tournament.

Wilkes improves to 11-3 overall and 4-0 in league matches. Manhattanville drops to 3-5 and 3-1 in league play.

Wilkes captured all three doubles flights before posting wins in five of six singles matches. The duos of Steven Wilson (Bronx, NY/JFK)/Clarke Freeman (York, PA/Central York) (No.1), Alex Makos (Mansfield, PA/Mansfield)/Zack Telljohann (Atlanta, GA/Westminster) (No.2), and Brandon Helfrich (Bloomsburg, PA/Central Columbia)/Evan Katz (Ellicott City, MD/Centennial) (No.3) posted wins in doubles competition.

Wilson took a 6-1, 6-0 win at No. 2 singles, while Telljohann was a 6-4, 6-0 winner at No. 3. Freeman, Dakkota Deem (Montgomery, PA/Montgomery), and Helfrich rounded out the singles winners for the Colonels who wrapped up its fourth consecutive top seed.

The Colonels will wrap-up its Freedom scheduled Saturday when they host FDU-Florham at 1:00 p.m. at the Ralston Athletic Complex. Senior Evan Katz (Ellicott City, MD/Centennial) will be honored prior to the match start on senior day.
