Steve Finkernagel Jordan Borger produced Wilkes' lone run in game two at DeSales DESALES SWEEPS WILKES SOFTBALL IN FREEDOM DOUBLEHEADER 4/21/2012 6:14:00 PM Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 DESALES SWEEPS WILKES SOFTBALL IN FREEDOM DOUBLEHEADER CENTER VALLEY, PA – Host DeSales University squeezed out a 1-0 win in game one of a pitcher's duel, then exploded for ten hits and ten runs in a 10-1 win in five innings in game two to post a sweep of Wilkes University Saturday afternoon in Freedom softball action. Wilkes moves to 7-21 overall and 2-10 in league play following the sweep. DeSales improves to 13-21 overall and 5-7 in Freedom games. Game one proved to be a pitching duel as Wilkes' Laykin Hughes (Minersville, PA/Pottsville) and DeSales' Christine Petrilla brought their best stuff to the circle. Hughes allowed just one run over 6.2 innings while Petrilla kept the Lady Colonel bats at-bay tossing a four-hit shutout to record the win. Petrilla helped her cause at the plate providing the RBI base hit in the seventh to seal the win. In the second game, Wilkes took an early 1-0 lead after its first at-bats as Kait Brown (Utica, NY/Thomas R. Proctor) was hit by a pitch and later scored on an RBI sacrifice fly from Jordan Borger (Kunkletown, PA/Pleasant Valley). In the bottom half of the frame, the DeSales bats exploded producing 10 runs on eight hits as the Bulldogs could do no wrong at the plate. DeSales starter Rachel Vogel rode the first inning momentum in the circle tossing five innings allowing just three hits to pick up the win. Borger, Jessalyn Paveletz (Hanover Township, PA/Hanover Area), and Alysha Bixler (Williamstown, PA/Williams Valley) accounted for the Wilkes hits. Bixler recorded the loss in the circle allowing the big first inning for DeSales. Wilkes will be back in action Monday when the Lady Colonels host Baptist Bible College at 6:00 p.m. at the Ralston Athletic Complex.
