WILKES MEN'S TENNIS ADVANCES TO FREEDOM CHAMPIONSHIP WITH 5-0 WIN OVER FDU

EDWARDSVILLE – The Wilkes University men's tennis team will make its fifth straight appearance in the Freedom title match after posting a 5-0 win over FDU-Florham Wednesday afternoon at the Ralston Athletic Complex.

With the win Wilkes moves to 13-3 overall and will play the winner of second seeded King's and third seeded Manhattanville Saturday at the Ralston courts. The Colonels will look to make it five straight titles after capturing the last four Freedom crowns dating back to 2007-08.

Wilkes captured all three doubles flights to take a commanding 3-0 lead into single play needing two wins to clinch the match. Steven Wilson (Bronx, NY/JFK) and Clarke Freeman (York, PA/Central York) collected an 8-5 win at No. 1 doubles before Alex Makos (Mansfield, PA/Mansfield) and Zack Telljohann (Atlanta, GA/Westminster) posted an 8-0 win at No. 2. Brandon Helfrich (Bloomsburg, PA/Central Columbia) and Brendon Blachowski (Newtown, PA /Council Rock North) finished things off with an 8-2 victory at No. 3.

Alex Makos (Mansfield, PA/Mansfield) was a 6-1, 6-1 winner at No. 1 singles, and Dakkota Deem (Montgomery, PA/Montgomery) clinched the match with a 6-3, 6-2 decision at No. 5 to send the Colonels to their fifth straight title berth.
