FAZZI NETS GAME-WINNER IN 2OT TO LIFT WILKES WOMEN'S SOCCER OVER KING'S, 1-0

EDWARDSVILLE – Grace Fazzi (Wilkes-Barre, PA/Coughlin) took a loose ball from the top of the box and deposited it past the Lady Monarch keeper in the second overtime session to lift host Wilkes University to a 1-0 win over cross-town rival King's Wednesday afternoon at the Ralston Athletic Complex.

Wilkes moves to 9-4-3 overall and improves its Freedom mark to 4-0-1. King's slips to 7-7-1 and 2-3 in league games.

Fazzi's goal came with 2:13 left in the second overtime when she found a loose ball at the top of the box and booted it to the top right post past the keeper.

The teams battled evenly throughout the first 90 minutes and into the first overtime where the game began to found more offensive chances for both sides.

Kate Mahoney (Kingston, NH/Central Catholic) recorded the shutout in net for Wilkes making four saves on the afternoon. Jessica Natale made three stops in net for King's. Wilkes held a 13-7 shot advantage while garnering four corner kicks to King's three attempts.

Wilkes returns to the field Saturday traveling to Purchase, N.Y. for a Freedom contest at Manhattanville College at 2:30 p.m.
