LADY COLONELS SOCCER FALLS 2-0 AT MISERICORDIA

DALLAS, PA -- The Lady Colonels fell 2-0 on the road at #12 nationally ranked Misericordia University on Saturday afternoon.  Wilkes' record stands at 9-7-3 (4-2-1) while Misericordia improves to 16-2-1 (7-0).

Megan Mahoney got the Cougars on the board in the 28th minute when she lofted a direct kick from the left wing over the outstretched hands of goalkeeper Kristy Colangelo (Staten Island, NY/St. Joseph by the Sea).  Three minutes later Wilkes had their best chance when Samantha Hockley (Middletown, PA/Lower Dauphin) fired a shot that was deflected by Misericordia goalkeeper Maureen Ciccosanti.  After the deflection an MU defender was able to clear the ball off the line and prevent the Lady Colonels from tying the score 1-1.

The Cougars added an insurance goal in the 52nd minute when Meghan Antrim scored from 20 yards off a feed from Megan Lanigan.  Wilkes offensively managed two shots and two corners in the second half but were unable to capitalize on their chances.

The Lady Colonels next contest will be on Tuesday November 5, when they host the Freedom Conference semi-finals at the Ralston Athletic Complex. Wilkes has earned the second seed in this year's tournament for the second consecutive year. Kick-off is scheduled for 2:30 p.m. against cross-town rival King's College who earned the third seed with a 2-1 overtime win against DeSales late this afternoon.
