WILKES MEN'S TENNIS UPENDS PSU-BEHREND, 9-0

HILTON HEAD, SC – The Wilkes University men's tennis team opened its spring break trip with a 9-0 victory over Penn State Behrend Tuesday afternoon in Hilton Head Island, South Carolina.

Wilkes moves to 2-0 on the year while PSU-Behrend drops to 3-8 on the season.

The Colonels used six straight set wins in singles play before posting a sweep of all three doubles flights to post the 9-0 win. Steven Wilson (Bronx, NY/JFK) posted a 6-3, 6-2 win at No. 1 singles, while Alex Makos (Mansfield, PA/Mansfield) scored a 6-2, 6-1 win in the No. 2 position.

Michael Kranz (Depew, NY/Lancaster Central) (No. 3), Max Appello (Sparta, NJ/Sparta) (No. 4), Brendon Blachowski (Newtown, PA /Council Rock North) (No. 5), and Dan Hackford (No. 6) all were straight set winners for Wilkes in singles competition.

Wilkes returns to play Wednesday with a match against Wittenberg University at 12:00 p.m.
