WILKES MEN'S TENNIS DROPS 5-4 DECISION TO WITTENBERG

HILTON HEAD ISLAND, SC – The Wilkes University men's tennis team suffered its first defeat of the 2012-13 campaign dropping a 5-4 decision against Wittenberg University Wednesday afternoon at Hilton Head, South Carolina.

Wilkes falls to 2-1 overall on the year following the loss.

Wilkes took one of three doubles flights as the duo of Alex Makos (Mansfield, PA/Mansfield) and Steven Wilson (Bronx, NY/JFK) claimed a 9-8 (7-4) win at No. 1 pairs.

Max Appello (Sparta, NJ/Sparta) was a 6-3, 1-6, 10-7 winner at No. 4 singles, while Brendon Blachowski (Newtown, PA /Council Rock North) (No. 5) earned a 6-3, 2-6, 10-6 win over Tyler Strong. Brandon Helfrich (Bloomsburg, PA/Central Columbia) rounded out the singles winners for Wilkes outlasting Joe Marra 6-2, 1-6, 10-5 at No. 6.

Wilkes concludes its spring break trip Friday with a matchup against John Carroll University at 8:30 a.m.
