Alex Hoops finished with two RBI hits for Wilkes against Susquehanna Thursday LADY COLONELS DROP TWO TO SUSQUEHANNA 4/11/2013 6:26:00 PM Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 LADY COLONELS DROP TWO TO SUSQUEHANNA EDWARDSVILLE – The Wilkes University Lady Colonel softball team dropped a pair of non-conference games to Susquehanna University Thursday afternoon falling 11-1 in five innings in game one before dropping a 4-3 decision in the nightcap at the Ralston Athletic Complex. Wilkes stands at 9-15 overall while the Crusaders improve to 21-5. Game one saw Susquehanna take a 2-0 after its first at-bats using a sacrifice fly and wild pitch to plate the two runs. Wilkes responded in the bottom half of the frame when Alex Hoops (Mountaintop, PA/Crestwood) singled up the middle scoring Mandy Seccia (Endicott, NY/Union-Endicott). The Crusaders added to the lead in the second as two more runs crossed the plate on an Anna Heggenstaller solo home run and Lauren Gilbert RBI single. From there, Susquehanna scored seven times in the fourh including a three-run home run from Heggenstaller, her second of the game, to seal the non-conference win. Hoops finished with two hits including the RBI hit in the first. Alysha Bixler (Williamstown, PA/Williams Valley) suffered the loss in the circle going three innings allowing eight runs (five earned) on nine hits. Laykin Hughes (Minersville, PA/Pottsville) entered in relief throwing the final two innings. Susquehanna began game two as it did in game one scoring three first inning runs to take an early 3-0 lead. Wilkes answered with one run in the bottom of the first as Hoops came up with another big hit doubling down the right field line scoring Jessalyn Paveletz (Hanover Township, PA/Hanover Area) on the play. A Susquehanna error on a long fly ball to left field off the bat of Seccia scored two more Wilkes runs in the fourth tying the game at 3-3. The game would not stay tied for long as Larissa Luu connected on a solo home run that proved to be the game-winner in the fifth. Finch and Kait Brown (Utica, NY/Thomas R. Proctor) each added two hits in the game for Wilkes. Chapin went all seven innings allowing four runs on seven hits striking out two.
