WILKES SOFTBALL PICKS UP PAIR OF VICTORIES AT PSU-HAZLETON

HAZLETON, PA – The Wilkes University softball team bounced back from a disappointing weekend recording a pair of wins at Penn State Halzeton Tuesday afternoon in non-conference action. The Lady Colonels secured a 7-5 win in game one before posting a 9-7  victory in the second contest.

Wilkes moves to 11-19 overall following the two wins.

Game one saw Wilkes take a 6-0 lead after three innings of play. The Lady Colonels added one more insurance tally in the sixth before a late Penn State Hazleton rally in the seventh (five runs) was cut short to preserve the 7-5 victory.

Alex Hoops (Mountaintop, PA/Crestwood) led Wilkes offensively in game one going 2-for-4 with two RBI. Jesalyn Paveletz and Brooke Chapin (Nanticoke, PA/Nanticoke) each added RBI hits in the contest.

Chapin went all seven innings in the circle allowing five runs on 11 hits striking out three to record the win.

Wilkes did all its damage in three innings in game two one way to the 9-7 victory. Wilkes scored five runs in the third before adding one run in the fourth and three in the fifth. Hoops continued to swing the hot bat going 3-for-4 with an RBI. Emily McGrath (Upper Darby, PA/Drexel Hill) added a three-run home run while Mandy Seccia (Endicott, NY/Union-Endicott) and Kait Brown (Utica, NY/Thomas R. Proctor) each posted two hits.

Alysha Bixler (Williamstown, PA/Williams Valley) and Haylie Phillips (Rome, PA/Northeast Bradford) shared pitching duties for Wilkes with Phillips getting the win. She went five and one third allowing four runs on eight hits.

Wilkes returns to the field Saturday hosting Delaware Valley College at 1:00 p.m. for a Freedom Conference doubleheader at the Ralston Athletic Complex.
