Steve Finkernagel A.J Mihaly collected a pair of hits Monday against Mount Aloysius BASEBALL SPLITS WITH MOUNT ALOYSIUS, WIN STREAK SNAPPED AT SIX 4/22/2013 7:26:00 PM Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 BASEBALL SPLITS WITH MOUNT ALOYSIUS, WIN STREAK SNAPPED AT SIX KINGSTON – The Wilkes University baseball team snapped a six game win streak by splitting a doubleheader with Mount Aloysius College, winning 7-2 in game one before falling 11-8 in the nightcap in non-conference action Monday. Wilkes moves to 20-12 overall while the Mounties stand at 19-12. In game one, Tom Ring (Massapequa Park, NY/St. John the Baptist) shut the Mounties down only allowing two hits after a leadoff home run. He collected seven strikeouts and allowed only two free passes and one run in his five innings of work. The Colonel bats struck for four runs in the second inning. Ring helped his cause with a two run double, before Marcus Leaf (Reading, PA/Berks Catholic) and Patrick Condo (Dallas, PA/Holy Redeemer) garnered RBI singles. Ring struck again with an RBI single in the third, plating A.J. Mihaly (Berwick, PA/Berwick Area) who singled earlier in the inning. A Scott Skammer (Dallas, PA/Dallas) sac fly and an RBI on a hit by pitch by Mihaly plated the sixth and seventh runs for Wilkes. Carmen Lopresto (Pittston, PA/Pittston Area), Adam Misiura (Springbrook, PA/North Pocono), Ring, and Mihaly had two hits apiece. Leaf worked the final two innings allowing one run while fanning one. In game two, the Colonels fell behind early when the Mounties plated five runs in the top of the second. The big blows of the inning came on a two run home run by Jesse Bortner. The Wilkes bats were able to add a single tally in each of the first four innings before scoring four runs in the fifth. An RBI double by Zac Berg in the second got Wilkes back to within three, at 5-2. In the third, Mihaly scored on a groundout off the bat of Nick Craig (Springfield, PA/The Haverford School). In the fourth, a Skammer sac fly plated Lopresto who singled earlier in the inning. Mount Aloysius scored four runs in the top of the fifth before the Colonels responded with a four spot of their own. Bobby Schappell (Pottsville, PA/Pottsville) hit a two run single back up the middle, before Lopresto plated two runners on a long double to left field. Brandon Michael (Berwick, PA/Berwick Area) took the loss, allowing five runs in two innings. Zach Lazar (Berwick, PA/Berwick Area) pitched 2 1/3 innings of scoreless relief while striking out three Mounties. Lopresto led the offense with two base knocks and two RBI's. Wilkes will return to action when they host Misericordia on Friday. The game is set as senior day where seniors Skammer, Lopresto, Lazar, Brandon Carling (Old Forge, PA/Old Forge Area), Joe Dantas (Reading, PA/Fleetwood), and Angelo Trento (Jamesburg, NJ/Jamesburg) will be honored prior to the start of the game.
