WILKES MEN'S TENNIS OPENS FREEDOM PLAY WITH 9-0 WIN AT EASTERN

ST. DAVIDS, PA – The Wilkes University men's tennis team scored a 9-0 victory over Eastern University in both teams' Freedom Conference opener of 2012-13 Saturday afternoon.

Wilkes moves to 5-2 overall and 1-0 in league play following the win. Eastern drops to 3-3 overall and 0-1 in conference matches.

Wilkes opened with a 3-0 lead after doubles competition sweeping the pairs sets. Wilkes allowed only five total points in the three doubles matches.

The Colonels swept singles play with straight set wins throughout the lineup. Brendon Blachowski (Newtown, PA /Council Rock North) and Trey Fidler (Myerstown, PA/ELCO) went 6-0, 6-0 in No. 5 and No. 6 singles respectively to lead the way for Wilkes. Steven Wilson (Bronx, NY/JFK) recorded a 6-0, 6-1 win at No. 1 while Alex Makos (Mansfield, PA/Mansfield) posted his 11 overall singles win with a 6-3, 6-0 victory at No. 2. Michael Kranz (Depew, NY/Lancaster Central) (No. 3) and Connor Peckham (Warminster, PA/Central Bucks East) (No. 4) rounded out the Wilkes winners each collecting their first Freedom wins as Colonels.

Wilkes returns to the court tomorrow with a road non-conference match at Marywood University scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
