Steve Finkernagel Senior Alicia Robert's overtime diving header seals Lady Colonels victory ROBERT’S GAME-WINNING OVERTIME GOAL LIFTS LADY COLONELS PAST MUHLENBERG 8/31/2013 8:21:00 PM Box Score ROBERT'S GAME-WINNING OVERTIME GOAL LIFTS LADY COLONELS PAST MUHLENBERG EDWARDSVILLE – Alicia Roberts (Hatboro, PA/Upper Moreland) scored 53 seconds into the first overtime to lead the women's soccer team to a 2-1 victory of Muhlenberg, in the final game of the Colonel Classic. With the win the Lady Colonels improve to 2-0 on the season while Muhlenberg falls to 0-2. After a scoreless first half with most of the play taking place in the center of the field, the Lady Colonels were able to muster an attack through the center of the field and into freshman Dianna Connor (Effort, PA/Pleasant Valley) who was able to maneuver around three defenders before firing a shot into the back of the net to give Wilkes a 1-0 advantage in the 47th minute. Down 1-0 with two minutes to play, Muhlenberg was able to tie the score when Jacelin Muschlitz was able push one past Wilkes goalie Kate Mahoney (Kingston, NH/Central Catholic). After a great initial save on a header attempt, Mahoney was unable to corral the rebound and Muschlitz was able to tap the ball into an empty net to even the score at one. The Lady Colonels controlled possession to start the overtime period found Connor wide who was able to beat the defender 1 v 1 and whip a cross into the six yard box where Roberts finished the chance off with a diving header. Wilkes returns to action Saturday September 7 when they face Richard Stockton in the opening game of the Catholic Tournament being played in Washington D.C. Print Friendly Version
