Wilkes won 9 of 11 flights at the 2014 MAC Individual Tournament WILKES MEN’S TENNIS CLINCHES TITLES IN NINE FLIGHTS OF MAC INDIVIDUAL TOURNAMENT 10/12/2014 6:12:00 PM (Full Brackets)WILKES MEN'S TENNIS CLINCHES TITLES IN ALL NINE FLIGHTS OF MAC INDIVIDUAL TOURNAMENT EDWARDSVILLE – The Wilkes University men's tennis team captured all six singles championships and three doubles flights on way to nine total titles at the Middle Atlantic Conference Individual Tournament Sunday afternoon at the Ralston Athletic Complex and Kirby Park courts. It marks the third straight year the Wilkes men have claimed at least nine championships at the event after sweeping all ten flights last season. No. 1 singles guaranteed a Wilkes champion as Steven Wilson (Bronx, NY/JFK) and Max Appello (Sparta, NJ/Sparta) squared off in the finals after posting wins in semifinal action. Appello took the final match in straight sets 6-3, 6-2 to claim the first title of his career. At No. 2 Michael Kranz (Depew, NY/Lancaster Central) picked up his second straight crown posting a 6-2, 3-6, 10-1 win over Stephen Brand of King's in the finals. Kranz won the title at No. 2 last year defending his crown in this year's tournament. Wilkes was guaranteed another title at No. 3 singles as teammates Adam Lefkandinos (Toms River, NJ/Toms River North) and Troy Haas (Huntington Station, NY/Walt Whitman) met in the finals after straight set semifinal wins. Lefkandinos recorded his second straight championship posting a 6-2, 6-3 decision over Haas. Lefkandinos won the title at No. 6 singles last year as a rookie. Another guaranteed winner at No. 4 singles for Wilkes happened when Brendon Blachowski (Newtown, PA /Council Rock North) and Andrew Neidig (Matamoras, PA/Delaware Valley) met in the finals. Blachowski outlasted his freshman teammate posting a 7-5(6), 6-2 win to capture his second straight title after winning the crown at No. 5 singles last season. After falling in the finals of No. 6 singles last year, Collin Strunk (Blakeslee, PA/Pocono Mountain West) received his redemption posting a 2-6, 6-3, 12-10 win over Messiah's Conner Graybeal in the finals to complete his title run at No. 5 singles. Artyom Nabokin (Danvers, MA/Danvers) completed the singles champions for Wilkes clinching a 6-0, 6-2 win over FDU-Florham's Nikola Radovic in the finals. In doubles competition, Dominic and Jacob Parfianowicz (Elmira, NY/Elmira Free Academy) defended their crown at No. 1 posting an 8-3 win in the finals over teammates Lefkandinos and Wilson. At No. 2 doubles, Appello and Haas went 8-1 over Corridoni and Carl of King's in the finals to pick-up their first title as a duo. Rookie pair Neidig and Nabokin rounded out the Colonel doubles champions posting an 8-6 victory over teammates Strunk and Brian Murray (Brooklyn, NY/Leon M. Goldstein) in the finals of No. 3. Wilkes remains idle until February 14 and 15 when the Colonels compete in the Drew University Ranger Invitational to begin the 2015 spring season.Print Friendly Version
