WILKES SOFTBALL FALLS TWICE AGAINST NATIONAL POWER SALISBURY
 
SALISBURY, MD – The Wilkes University softball team dropped a pair of games Saturday against national power Salisbury University. The Lady Colonels suffered a 12-0 defeat in five innings in game one before dropping a 9-1 decision in five innings in game two.
 
Wilkes falls to 0-4 on the young season following the weekend trip to Salisbury, Maryland.
 
In game one, Salisbury jumped out to a 2-0 lead after one inning before posting ten runs on ten hits in the third. The Lady Colonels were unable to muster a hit in the game as Rachel Johnson threw the five-inning no-hitter striking out 12 batters.
 
Alysha Bixler (Williamstown, PA/Williams Valley) suffered the loss in the circle going three innings allowing 13 hits and 11 earned runs. Ashley Eden (Fogelsville, PA/Northwestern Lehigh) pitched two scoreless innings in the fourth and fifth.
 
Game two saw the host Sea Gulls take another early lead, this time going up 8-0 after two innings of play. Wilkes scored its lone run of the contest in the top of the fifth as Emily McGrath (Upper Darby, PA/Drexel Hill) doubled to lead-off the frame. Makenna Rushannon (Pottsville, PA/Pottsville) pinch ran for McGrath and moved to third on a groundout before scoring when the Salisbury catcher tried throwing her out on third following a foul out.
 
Bixler and McGrath accounted for the two Wilkes hits in the game. Meghan Kisela (Schuylkill Haven, PA/Blue Mountain) went three innings recording the loss allowing 12 hits and eight runs. Haylie Phillips (Rome, PA/Northeast Bradford) entered in relief pitching one and a third allowing two hits and one run.
 
Wilkes returns home to host the University of Scranton on Wednesday at 3:00 p.m. at the Ralston Athletic Complex.
