WILKES SOFTBALL FALLS AT SUSQUEHANNA IN NON-CONFERENCE TWINBILL
 
SELINSGROVE, PA – The Wilkes University softball team suffered a pair of defeats at non-conference foe Susquehanna University Thursday afternoon. The Lady Colonels fell 7-0 in game one before storming back to take the lead in game two only to be beat by a walk-off home run in the seventh 6-5 in game two.
 
Wilkes slips to 4-18 overall following the loss while Susquehanna improves to 15-9 after the win.
 
Susquehanna jumped out to a 6-0 lead after two innings in game one and never looked back as Morgan Lewis went all seven innings allowing four hits in the shutout win. Jordan Borger (Kunkletown, PA/Pleasant Valley), Alex Hoops (Mountaintop, PA/Crestwood), Emily McGrath (Upper Darby, PA/Drexel Hill) and Haylie Phillips (Rome, PA/Northeast Bradford) accounted for the base hits for Wilkes in game one.
 
Alysha Bixler (Williamstown, PA/Williams Valley) recorded the loss in the circle for Wilkes going all seven innings allowing nine hits and seven runs.
 
The Crusaders continued their hot bats in the start of game two taking a 5-0 lead after three innings including a four-run third. From there the Wilkes offense responded scoring one run in the fourth to cut the lead to 5-1. Lacey Bixler (Williamstown, PA/Williams Valley) singled to center field scoring Hoops on the play.
 
The Lady Colonels battled all the way back in the top of the seventh scoring four runs to tie the game at 5-5. After Casara McCleaf (Fairfield, PA/Delone Catholic) crossed the plate on a wild pitch, A. Bixler connected on a two-run double followed by an RBI single from Borger.
 
Susquehanna stole the game back in its last at-bats when Amanda Neveroski homered down the right field line to give the Crusaders the 6-5 victory.
 
Hoops, McCleaf and Brooke Limeberry (Easton, PA/Easton) led the Wilkes bats in game two with two hits each. Haylie Phillips (Rome, PA/Northeast Bradford) started in the circle going three innings allowing three hits and two earned runs while Meghan Kisela (Schuylkill Haven, PA/Blue Mountain) entered in relief going the final three innings allowing the one run in the seventh (home run) on three hits.
 
Wilkes continues its road stretch Saturday traveling to Purchase, N.Y. for a Freedom Conference doubleheader at Manhattanville College at 1:00 p.m.
