WILKES MEN'S TENNIS GOES 2-0 IN SPLIT SQUAD MATCHES SATURDAY

EDWARDSVILLE – The Wilkes University men's tennis team recorded a pair of victories Saturday using a split squad to post a 9-0 win at home against Penn College and a 9-0 victory on the road at Stevenson University.

With the two wins Wilkes continues its undefeated mark standing 13-0 overall and 5-0 in Freedom Conference matches.

In the win against Penn College, Wilkes went 3-0 in doubles play and swept all six singles flights in straight sets. Colonel winners in singles play included Troy Haas (Huntington Station, NY/Walt Whitman) (No.1), Brian Murray (Brooklyn, NY/Leon M. Goldstein) (No. 2), Collin Strunk (Blakeslee, PA/Pocono Mountain West) (No. 3), Daniel Hackford (Binghamton, NY/Seton Catholic) (No. 4), Dennis Gliem (Media, PA/Penncrest) (No. 5) and Throy Austero (Maywood, NJ/Ridgefield Park) (No. 6).

Wilkes cruised to a 9-0 victory in the Freedom match at Stevenson later in the day. Steven Wilson (Bronx, NY/JFK), Alex Makos (Mansfield, PA/Mansfield), Michael Kranz (Depew, NY/Lancaster Central), Brendon Blachowski (Newtown, PA /Council Rock North), Dominic Parfianowica and Jacob Parfianowicz (Elmira, NY/Elmira Free Academy) each recorded singles wins.

Wilkes returns to the court tomorrow (Sunday) traveling to NYU for a non-conference match at 1:00 p.m.
